Things I miss about New York City.
1. Seasons. Okay honestly, I just miss Autumn. But geez do I miss it. The wind whipping across your face as it gets cooler when the sun goes down, the leaves twirling at your feet, the enticement of a hot cup of coffee to warm your hands.
2. Not having to buy gasoline. Hi, $5.00+/gallon here in California.
3. Dinner plans with a different friend, every (school)night of the week. I miss going out and prancing around the city after a couple of glasses of wine, only to decide that hey! that little wine bar looks sooo cute - let's check it out for just one more drink!

4. Delis. Not like, "Hey, I want to order a pound of turkey" kind of delis. The kind of deli that is on every other street corner in midtown, where you bop on in, order your iced coffee with half-n-half and half a Splenda and an oatmeal with bananas, and bop right back on out, sipping your morning crack and clutching your bag of breakfast that you'll consume slowly throughout your work morning.
5. Proximity to the rest of the Eastern Seaboard. Oh how I wish I had taken much more advantage of living a mere 4 hour train ride from my Auntie Patty and my cousins.
6. Out of town visitors. Like here and here and here.

7. The neighborhoods.
8. And who could forget: The crazies. Remember her? And how this guy verbally berated me? Ugh, and I'm all for the arts, but this guy drove me batty after a while. As long as it's not directed at me, I can't help but laugh when people throw tantrums. And some strangers were kinder (and more eclectic) than others. And of course, you can't forget the loons (this one and this one) that I lived with.
Hint: If it's highlighted in pink, it's a link to a past story...click it!

The good, the bad, and the bizarre...I miss it all. :)

Awww this makes me miss NYC too. I never lived there but I've been for extended stays. I especially love the delis!! Oh man, a corned beef sandwhich with swiss and a half sour, a hot bowl of matzah ball soup and an egg cream from the Stage Deli on a chilly, rainy New York day. There's nothing better in this WORLD.
I love this!!! I miss so much about New York too. It's definitely some different things (since we have plenty of seasons up here in Maine), but some of the same things too. LoLo and I were just talking about missing delis. I miss being able to get a really cheap coffee and a really cheap bagel in the morning and a really yummy sandwich at lunch time! Yummmm. Oh and the roommate situation? I will have to write about mine sometime too. She was the mayor of crazytown!! She found a woman to take my room when I wasn't even moving out yet.
I heard gas prices are about to drop this week. They better. It's been ridiculous.
aww sad :(
I've been missing New York a lot lately, too. Nothing beats an autumn stroll through Central Park. OR not paying for gas. OR having one (or five) too many drinks and not having to worry about HOW to get home (because cabs & subways are EVERYWHERE). and just living in such an amazing city!
[I get to visit in November ..first time since moving away in April. wooo hooo!]
If I could move to NYC like right now, I would. True story.
AWE! This is how I feel about SF!! :-/
And then, JUST when I'm ready for a move to NYC - SOMEBODY decides to move ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
Yes, I am raising my voice, missy.
I love New York. Maybe someday...
xoxo
