Hot yoga.

A little Thursday inspiration.

I'm in a really good place this week.  After last week's depleting trip to Vegas (I can never leave there without being the most exhausted I can image and toting some ear/nose/throat issue home with me), I really kicked my butt into high gear this week, pushing myself to really get some good work outs in.

About a year ago, upon my move back to Los Angeles, I realized that my body was starting to not feel as young and limber as it once was, and as a result, I started hiking regularly and taking beginner's yoga classes a couple times a week.

About two weeks ago, I mentioned to my good friend, Lauren (who is quite the yogi, might I add), that even though I was working out four times a week, either hiking or taking yoga class, I wasn't slimming down at all.  (And after three years of dining and boozing and brunching in New York, I definitely need to shed some of the poundage that I picked up during my time living there.)  Lauren asked me if I'd done Bikram or Hot Yoga lately, and suggested that I pick back up on those classes in order to see a more optimal result.

I quickly googled the benefits of Hot Yoga versus Regular Yoga, just to refresh my memory (I hadn't been to a Bikram studio since my New York days), and read women's testimonials saying that committing to just three classes per week had really caused them to see great changes in their body and mind.  Sounded great to me, so I enlisted my older sister, Laura, and we've agreed to hold each other accountable for at least three classes per week.  We enrolled at our local Corepower Yoga (they're nationwide, and the first week is free - check to see if there's one in your neighborhood!), and in the past four days, we've hit three classes.  And we both are feeling great - more energy, our metabolisms are revved, and we both agreed our minds feel more clear.  I'm really excited to keep it going and see what further results we can achieve.

Do you exercise regularly?  Have you tried Hot Yoga or Bikram?  What are your go-to workouts?

I have not excercized in years and like...it's not good. But I've been thinking of picking up yoga. I'm just so lazy. Having to go before work and change there, etc. That's so terrible when I say (er...write) it out loud.

Lacey, i had no idea you were into Yoga. Lindsay and I have been at it for several months now. There is no downside. It's great for everything. Some of my friends have told me about hot yoga, but I'm a furnace, I'd probably explode!
FYI, You can never go wrong with a Whitman quote!... he would have been a yogi, for sure!

I've always wanted to try hot yoga. Why does it have to be so expensive though? Most regular gyms don't offer it so then you have to get an extra membership to a yoga studio and it's just so pricey. I still want to try it though. Thanks for sharing!
