The night we saw Dirty Heads, Matisyahu, + Sublime in concert.

Even when I'm traveling for work purposes, sometimes I get to do really fun local things in the cities I'm visiting!  My friend, HC, and I are traveling on the same schedule this trip, and when we met in the hotel lobby yesterday morning, the first thing she said to me was, "What are you doing tonight?  Because we're going to a concert!"

I'm not a huge concert lover, but when my friend tells me that she's got two tickets waiting at will call for us and that the bassist of one of the headlining bands is the one that left them there for us - who am I to say no?

It turns out that HC's friend Dave is the bassist for The Dirty Heads (who were fantastic, by the way!), and The Dirty Heads (if you don't know them by name, I promise you that you know - and like - this song that is always on the radio) are touring with Matisyahu.  I saw Matisyahu back in the summer of 2007 in San Diego, and I thought then, and still think, that he is such a great energy.  Here's a video that HC shot of The Dirty Heads performing "Dance All Night" and Matis joining them on stage - check out that swagger!

**You may hear me at the end of the video saying, "Who was that?!" because a- I was so impressed with how cool he was, and b- because I didn't recognize him as Matisyahu - I had no idea he had shaved his facial hair and didn't follow traditional Chassidic Jewish tradition anymore!

It just so happened that The Dirty Heads/Matisyahu tour overlapped in Texas with Sublime with Rome's tour!  So they joined forces, and the result was that we got to see all three perform together here in Dallas last night!  Such lucky timing on our part.

A few photos:

Chatting with Dave, post-show.  Maybe I shouldn't say this and ruin his rockstar image, but he was just so darn nice.

Matisyahu's last song was "One Day", which I love.  He brought a ton of people on stage + everyone was going nuts!  I had chills, it was so cool.

It was such a great time, and I loved that it was a totally spur of the moment thing that we ended up going!

And funny thing:  My cousin, Nicole, who lives in Montana but will be visiting Dallas this weekend, invited me to meet her for a Brad Paisley concert on Saturday at the same venue that we were at last night!  Talk about seeing music across the spectrum, right?  This trip to Dallas is turning out to be so fun!

(Except for the mosquito bite I found on my stomach this morning - which kind of made me a little nervous seeing as there is a state of emergency in Dallas right now due to a West Nile Virus outbreak - which is carried by mosquitos...)

So much fun!! I know it can be easy to get into a habit of just hanging out in the hotel room on travel, but to make it more bearable I always found it was important to get out. I love that you take advantage of every opportunity in the cities you go to!
