One of my new goals for this year is to break the heels out more often. Living in the city, and consequently having to schlep (translation for you non-New York/LA'ers: schlep is to haul or carry) all over town, all day, every day, I have stuck so strictly to wearing flats that you'd think I don't own a single pair of heels. It doesn't hurt that I'm five-foot-nine, and bare-footed I still stand taller than a handful of my high-heeled friends.
I've made a conscious decision though to get my feet reacquainted with heels, because I will be soon moving to the cityish-suburbs of Stamford, Connecticut, where I will not be required to walk everywhere. (Instead I will have the option of driving again - eeek.) So while in Chicago a few weeks ago with Mrs. KD, I picked up a pair of espadrille-heeled wedges (have you guys seen the new Dolce Vita for Target line? Some of the pieces are pretty cute, and for $30 geez).
Upon my return to New York last week, MPD + I spent an evening at Radio City Music Hall (I cannot believe I haven't shared what a wonderful time that was yet! Ah I'm so behind...), and seeing as it was going to be a fun and special evening, I pulled out one of my favorite dresses, and paired it with my favorite pair of Farylrobin heels. If you've never tried on a pair of these guys, you are sincerely missing out. Four inch heels, and I didn't feel a pinch at all for over four hours. That's success in my book.
Anyway, my mission continues to become a veteran'ed heel wearer by the end of the Summer. Have any of you ever struggled with making yourself don heels when you'd prefer to wear a cute pair of flats instead? Tell me I'm not alone in this one...

i need to wear my high heels more often too!! it's tough in the city though, since you're trying to change your shoe ways, so will i :)
Do what I do: only buy heels, and no flats. That way you are forced to wear the heels.
This winter, for my new footwear, I only bought stiletto boots and snowboarding boots. Needless to say, I was only wearing cute jeans and stilettos all winter ;-)
It worked really well, except for those days when I wanted to run to the store in my victoria secret yoga pants. Uggs would have been perfect. I had to completely change my outfit to match the stilettos.
I need to work on this one! I love that quote you have, too. Rules of a Lady - I must check these out!
You'll be my heel-spiration. That isn't very funny, I'm sorry.
i'm totally with you! i feel so conspicuous in heels- like everyone is staring at me. i am 5'7" and in flats, at least 4 inches taller than all my friends. (i don't consider myself that tall- i just have really short friends). but i love the idea of wearing heels... i guess i'm just more interested in comfort and i haven't found a great pair like you described. i like your goal, though!
Ummm, I have to walk in gravel/dirt/mud to get to my vehicle every morning, since I live down a dirt road. Flats are totally the way to go sometimes :) BUT, I have become an expert heel off-roader!
OOHHmygosh, I am totally going to create a little word art with this and frame it and hang it in my house! Love it!!
I LOVE heels, I wear them all the time... but I don't do much schlepping
oh man alive, I used to wear heels EVERY.SINGLE.DAY into the office. Since quitting my desk job for a temporary serving job, my mind runs in terror at the thought of putting my achy feet into heels. Sad, considering I two over the door shelving units full of them. :(
I gave up a long time ago. Heels aren't really my thing. Lol. I'd much prefer a pair of Converse sneakers. ;)
