Times Square: 65 Years Later.

There's always something new and different going on in this city, and the latest buzz on the island is about the 26-foot statue erected in Times Square in commemoration of Alfred Eisenstaedt's 1945 photograph, "New York Times Square Kiss".  In case that doesn't ring a bell, it will as soon as you scroll down and view the original image.  A "Kiss In" was held along with the showcasing of the statue in honor of the 65th Anniversary of VJ-Day (the day the United States ended WWII by defeating the Japanese).

I'm actually disappointed that I didn't think of it today and wander over there as I was beebopping around the city.  I've told you before, I'm a tourist in my own city, so I want to see it!  Hopefully I'll be able to pass through tomorrow on my way home from work to catch a glimpse.  Check out the images for yourself:

And of course, the original inspiration:

Cool, right?  Would you make sure to see the statue if you lived in New York?

Hey! We have one of those here in San Diego, too! It's down by the U.S.S. Midway and the Fish Market.

Have you ever seen the photo "le baiser de l'hotel de ville"? I think it was taken in the 50s sometime. Anyway, it's super famous and people were always re-enacting it in Paris! I lived nearby and took more than a few of those tourist pictures :)

Hi Lacey!

I am a transplant New Yorker as well. All the way from HTX (Houston, TX)....im trying to make this phrase "happen" the way people use ATX to refer to Austin...i dont think its working haha.

I live in the East Village. Hadn't heard about this statue...must see it as much as I dread Times Square!!

I am a friend of Kristen "All in My Twenties." I just started a blog about my jewelry site....check it out!! As a "fashion gal" i would love to hear your feedback!
