My favorite homeless man on the subway boards the 6 Train, sings a really cool rendition of whatever doo-wop song he's feeling at the moment, and always wraps up his performance with these words of wisdom:
"Ladies and gentlemen, please don't forget to smile today. I promise: it won't mess up your hair."
Whenever he and I have a chance rendezvous on the subway, I can't help but think that given his circumstances, it probably takes a good bit more energy for him to have such a positive outlook on life. And if he can do it, I can certainly do my part and smile back.

LOVE the positivity! What a great man! It just goes to show you that you don't need wealth or looks or anything really but the right attitude to effect someone. And just remember that a bad attitude can have an equally dramatic, and devistating effect. If you can "turn that frown upside down" you will discover that life really is fantastic!
I love that, Lacey! What a little bit of inspiration :)
The majority of the time those subway performers drive me insane. But, every once in awhile they do make me laugh! I have not seen this guy...and I take the 6 train everyday! Will have to keep my eye out...
It's always interested me how some people in the toughest of situations seem to be the happiest. I'm sure it would please him to know he brightens your days. He's probably refreshing from the grumpy people on the subway!
how freaking cute is that? that really is an inspiration and now i can say i'm smilin! :) xo
Thats exactly why I am in LOVE with NYC.
That's awesome. As long as it doesn't mess up my perfect coif, I'm good.
Where is my sarcasm button?
How cool is he? I need to learn a few things from him.
Thanks for stopping by Lacey - your comment was a ray of sunshine in my cloudy little world today :)
Little would he dream that people all over the country (and maybe other countries) would be reading about him and feeling good. He is blessed!
I heard the same guy within my first month of living in New York. Thank you for bringing him--and the NYC subway--into the light!
