I definitely got a lot of driving in during the last week, and between my navigation system chattering at me constantly ("Recalculating...recalculating...") and trying to find something of the non-static kind on the radio in rural Cape Cod, I had a lot of time to think. A list of some of the thoughts that arose during my drive:
- First and foremost, a GPS is much easier on the ears when you program him to speak with an Australian man voice. Daniel (my GPS's given name) was an excellent companion for most of my trip. Except when he kept trying to direct me the wrong way down one-way streets. (He is from out of town though, so who can really blame him?)
- I think the closest I come to really believing in love is when Michael Buble sings it to me on the radio. I mean, the man can make you swoon, can he not?
- Since I don't drive on a regular basis these days, and I no longer own a car of my own, I tend to forget a super key thing about driving until I am only 40something miles away from it becoming a major problem: refueling.
- People cannot drive. At first I thought it was Massachusetts folk specifically, but after rounding out my trip, I don't discriminate. There are very few people who know how to drive. My parents used to claim that some people must get their licenses at Blue Light Specials. I now tend to agree.
- I went to Maine for the first time last week, and I loved it. I was really wanting to see a moose though, and was sadly disappointed that the closest that I got to wild life was...literally, a chicken crossing the road. You don't get that in Manhattan though, so I guess it was still a point on the kinda-cool scale.
- I previously mentioned that roadways in New Jersey are the bane of my driving existence. The past week reminded me that New England roadways also suck. Who the heck thought that a rotary would be such the great idea?
- Do truck drivers really have beds in the back of their cabs? I think this is a brilliant idea. I can't tell you how many times I could've used a nap midday.
- If the weather is calling for 94 degrees with 80% humidity and severe thunderstorms with a chance of tornado, just what exactly is a girl to wear?
- "The Big Dig" is Boston's never ending project to put their roadways underground. Great idea, actually, except when you are from out of town and relying on Daniel (who runs off satellite reception) who quits working when you go underground, therefore causing you to miss exit upon exit, and putting you way far away from where you were originally meant to be.
- Speaking of Daniel again, I can't figure out if he says "make a legal U-turn" or "make illegal U-turn". Somehow, I don't think that that explanation would hold up to the cop that eventually pulls me over for the "illegal U-turn".

Ahhhh girl, I absolutely love me some Michael Buble, especially when he's singing Quando Quando Quando or Lost. :) LOVE IN MY EARS.... GPS in Australian? Must try :)
I may need to change my navigator to a hot Australian!!
Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I am hitting the gym! Got to rock this reunion, it's now 4 months and 29 days away!
Hope you had a great weekend!
XO,
Erin
Were you making notes as all these things came to mind while driving? Very funny!
I just discovered your blog from a random google image search, and I find it absolutely interesting! It's hilarious, because I too have trouble with Daniel's many recalculations, Massachusett's confusing roadways and rotaries, and I've experienced the pitfalls of rural Cape Cod. Planning on following your blog now, thanks for such a refreshingly relatable read!
