Recipe: Sausage Brownies

Like I promised, here's another recipe from the Girls' Brunch that I hosted a couple of weeks ago.

First and foremost, it must be made clear that these are not like "real" brownies at all.  The name is one that my friend MM's family has used for years, and I wouldn't dare change it.  The only similarity this dish shares with traditional brownies is the way they are baked and cut for presentation.

And on that note, ya'll will die with this recipe.  It is so darn good, and tastes like some seriously yummy Southern cooking.  Full disclosure though, I don't want to even guess the calorie count!

Sausage Brownies (Makes one 13x9 inch pan.)

Ingredients:
1 Jimmy Dean Sausage Roll (like this one)
1 8-ounce block of low fat cream cheese, softened
2 cans of crescent rolls

Directions:
Cook sausage on medium heat in a skillet.
Once sausage is browned, turn to low heat and add cream cheese.
Mix until the sausage and cream cheese are thoroughly blended.

Spray 13 x 9" pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Roll one can of crescent rolls to lay flat totally flat on the bottom of the pan.

Spread the sausage/cream cheese mixture on top of the crescent roll layer, stopping about 1/2 an inch from the edges.
Use the second can of crescent rolls and layer the dough flat over the sausage/cream cheese mixture.
Push the second layer down around the edges to meet the first layer so that the mixture is sealed inside.

Bake at 375* for 20ish minutes, until sides are lightly browned.
