Conversation Yesterday in Brooklyn:

Salesgirl in a boutique, probably in her mid-30s:  Is it nice out?
Me:  Yes, it's so gorgeous.  I hope you get out early enough to enjoy it today.
Salesgirl:  I hate it.
Me:  Hate what?
Salesgirl:  This weather.  It sucks.
Me:  Oh.  Okay...
Salesgirl:  I mean, how do you like it?
Me:  Oh um, it's just so pretty out.  Makes me happy.
Salesgirl:  Makes me miserable.  I like the snow, the clouds, the gray.  I like the depressing weather.  I like the dreariness and the blizzards.  It makes me content, makes me feel good.  This winter was a good one.
Me:  Oh...
Salesgirl:  I mean, do you think that I'm a depressed person?
Me:  I don't know...
Salesgirl:  I mean, do I look depressed?
Me:  You look just fine.
Salesgirl:  Well what's that supposed to mean, just fine?
Me:  Oh I'm not sure, I've gotta go.  Thanks so much.

YIKES.

Only you get yourself into these kind of situations! That's why Lan and I are unfriendly-- ok maybe just Lan.
